Ever been asked along to a race night and wondered what you've let yourself in for? It's a pub fundraiser built around recorded horse races. Here's how one works, and how ours ran when we held them at The Anchor in Stanwell Moor.
What is a Race Night?
Pub Entertainment with a Difference
A race night isn't another quiz or karaoke evening. It works like this:
- Recorded races - Real horse races, filmed earlier, are played on screen one at a time
- Small bets - You back a horse before each race
- Prizes - Winners collect after each race
- Charity fundraising - The night raises money for a good cause
- Group entertainment - It suits friends, families and work teams
Nobody in the room knows which race is coming or who wins it, so you don't need to know a thing about horses.
How Our Race Nights Ran
We've held charity race nights at The Anchor in the past. This is how they went.
In the weeks before
- Betting cards went on sale at the bar
- You chose your horses from the race card
- Half the fun was talking tactics with your friends
On the night
- The races were shown on our TVs
- You could place more bets between races
- Prizes were handed out after each race
- The money raised went to charity

Finding The Anchor
Location: The Anchor, Horton Road, Stanwell Moor, TW19 6AQ
From Heathrow:
- Terminal 5: 7 minutes
- Terminals 2 and 3: 11 minutes
- Terminal 4: 12 minutes
Local Access:
- Staines: 8 minutes
- Bus: route 442 stops on Horton Road by the pub and runs from Heathrow Terminal 5
Parking: We've 20 free spaces right outside. There's no time limit while you're with us, and nothing to register.
